Our Leeds Project Heart rolls on in September with our featured nonprofit: Door Village Lions Club!
Lions Clubs International is the largest service organization in the world with 1.4 million members, in over 210 countries, with a motto of “We Serve.”
The Door Village group, based out of La Porte, drills down the international mission to a local level by supporting a range of projects through its 30 members. The chapter has been active since 1976.
Among the nonprofit’s top initiatives are purchasing dictionaries and reading books for elementary students, hosting an Easter egg hunt and a holiday meal for seniors, participating in cleanups and flag distribution events and providing vision screening for children. While COVID has affected some planned participation, the organization’s members are pushing through to fulfill as many projects as possible.
“We have a concession trailer and do 4-5 festivals every summer & fall. We usually raise $6,000-$7,000. Since all area festivals have been canceled, it’s left us scrambling to try and find different ways of raising funds so we can continue supporting many of our projects,” says Door Village Lions Club secretary Carol Pahs.
Leeds will be donating 50% of proceeds from a specially created drink to the nonprofit. Our Libations for Donations September cocktail is the Lions Pisco Pride, which brings together Pisco, Sugar Island Coconut Rum, House-made Lavender Syrup, Lime Juice, Egg White and Lavender Bitters.
Pahs is asking community members to back the organization by supporting its current fund-raising events. Follow the organization on Facebook for details.
Cheers to our community!
